Root Smudge
A root smudge applies a semi-permanent or demi-permanent color to the roots and gently blends it into the existing color. The result is a soft, seamless transition that eliminates the hard line between your natural root and your highlighted or colored hair.
Color is applied at the root zone and blended downward using a brush technique that diffuses the line — not covers it. The result feels natural, not painted.
A shadow root uses a darker shade at the root for deliberate depth and contrast. A root smudge uses a color that closely matches your natural root for the most seamless, invisible blend.
Ideal for: Clients who've had highlights or balayage and want a softer root transition — extending the life of their color and reducing grow-out visibility.
Color Melt
A color melt blends multiple shades seamlessly from root to tip — creating a stunning multidimensional transition that can range from subtle and tonal to bold and high-contrast, depending on the colors chosen.
Unlike balayage — which is freehand painting focused on mid-lengths and ends — a color melt involves precise, careful blending of two or more shades across the entire length of the hair.
Balayage focuses on the surface of the hair with a sweeping motion. A color melt is a more controlled blending of shades from root to tip — the transition is more even and structured.
Ideal for: Clients who want a multidimensional color result with a beautifully blended root-to-tip transition — subtle or dramatic, depending on the shades selected.
